JY Textiles | Synthetic Fibers

SYNTHETIC FIBERS

Microfiber

For many natural fibres are not an option due to dust or other allergies so the synthetic route is at times the only choice.  Through the advancement of technology we have however graduated to Microfiber which allows many of the benefits gained from natural fillings to be offered through a synthetic alternative.  With a denier of less than 1D microfiber is incredibly fine with a soft silky feel that can be used as an alternative to down or silk giving a great feel without the downsides of natural fibres.

Characteristics:

• Hypo-allergenic

• Down like feel

• Ideal for allergy sufferers

• Soft handle

• Long lasting

Soya

Soya fibres are a little bit of a misleading statement as they are not really soya but a synthetic fibre made from tofu manufacturing waste.  Soy protein is processed into a cellulose which is then extruded and cut in the same way as polyester.  However, not only is this an option to an oil based fibre but has a high moisture absorbency rate that allows the fibres to transport excess moisture away from the skin leaving a more comfortable and dry sleep environment.  As a filling fibre soya is a great alternative to polyester as it is not oil based, uses waste materials and goes some way towards sustainable manufacturing.

Characteristics:

  • Anti-allergenic
  • Soft handle
  • High moisture control

Bamboo

Bamboo is possibly the fastest growing plant in the world with some species growing up to 1m per day and is recognised as nature’s most sustainable resource.  Today we have harnessed this by converting the hard woody fibres into a soft viscose and whilst there are many critics of the processing method this is still a more sustainable source than that used in polyester, some may say a compromise.  However, regardless of the processing rights and wrongs bamboo fibres are very soft and have many of the characteristics of other natural fibres used in bedding.

Characteristics:

  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Anti-bacterial
  • Breathable
  • Soft handle
  • High moisture control
